Culling
In 1605, villager Grace escapes persecution as she flees, disoriented, into the forest. Taking refuge with two outcast women, the conflict she faces continues to reside in her own paranoid mind. Through the help of found community, she confronts her past and the reality of her fears.
Culling is an low-budget psychological drama short film set against the backdrop of the witch trials. It was funded entirely through an online fundraiser using a Proof of Concept and ran alongside a social media campaign.
Through budget and logistical management, acquiring abstract locations, and bridging a talented crew, I facilitated bringing our director’s vision to life.
The community themes in the film were echoed throughout the production process, the film only possible through the endless help we received from countryside locals, donors, and our team.
I recently received a best producer award from my university, judged by God’s own country and Kneecap producer Jack Tarling. Culling was also awarded for screenwriting, cinematography, and sound, two of which were judged by Russell T Davies, and Roger Deakins.
Culling has also been nominated for a British Society of Cinematographers ‘Student Short Film’ award.
